Questions

1. Why Didn't Prince Hamlet Kill King Claudius?

2.  Why did King Claudius and Polonius find it necessary to hide whilst Hamlet had conversations or send people to spy on Hamlet? Couldn't they just talk to him personally?

3.  What was the true feelings of King Claudius after seeing the altered murder scene in "Gonzago"

4. What was happening when Hamlet and His Mother (Queen Gertrude) were talking in her chamber

5. King Claudius ultimately reacts to the mimicked murder scene in "Gonzago", but why didn't he react during the "Dumbshow"?

2 comments:

  1. 1. Prince Hamlet did not kill Claudius because Hamlet believed Claudius to be praying and did not want to send him to Heaven, rather Hamlet wanted to kill Claudius while Claudius was committing a sin to send him straight to Hell.

    3. It is revealed to the audience that Claudius feels great remorse for murdering his brother. Claudius knows that he will most likely never have redemption, but he decides to seek it anyway and attempts to pray.

  2. 2. King Claudius and Polonius are both sneaky little rats and don't trust anyone, most likely because they themselves are untrustworthy. The whole thing with them setting up Hamlet for these big arguments between him and Ophelia or him and his mother just adds to the appearance vs reality theme of the play, showing that none of them do the right thing to try and figure everything out which ultimately leads to a tragic end.

    5. I thought this was quite odd too and the only conclusion that I can come up with is that King Claudius is a trashbag and just doesn't know things.
